As described in Sew Guide‘s article “What is Woven Fabric?”, woven fabrics are made by interlacing two or more yarns at right angles, forming a durable and structured textile. These fabrics are produced using looms that interweave warp (vertical) and weft (horizontal) threads to create a wide variety of textile applications.
The production of woven fabrics typically takes place on either handlooms or power looms, depending on the scale and purpose of manufacturing. The warp threads, which run lengthwise, are held tightly under tension while the weft threads are woven across, passing over and under the warp in a specific sequence. This method of construction results in a textile known for its dimensional stability, strength, and resistance to stretching, making it ideal for both commercial and industrial applications.
